**WARNING: This game is HARD but FAIR. You can learn the combat - be smarter than the monsters. Don't block - blocking seems to be broken but was never a core feature anyway. TIP: Move in when you swing the axe, move back after you strike. There is a rhythm to fighting.**

 You awake in a derelict room. Your head feels foggy and your awareness is thin - some more sleep sounds like heaven. However, the hard, mattress-less, and vaguely blood-stained metal bed you awoke on is less than inviting, and any conventional wisdom would lead you to get the heck out of here. 

So that's exactly what you're going to do. 

Your phone, wallet, and keys are no where to be found and you spy nothing that would make a suitable weapon in your immediate vicinity. 

Oh well, at least you still have your clothes.

Description:

       A short, 3 level survival horror game I'm putting together, inspired by the early Resident Evil games. This demo is the fully playable (albeit unpolished) 1st level. We are currently working on building Level 2 "The Tube" and Level 3 "The Complex".

Awesome will watch soon ! I did notice you are playing the old version - just a heads up there are a lot if issues in that one that are not there in the new version. New version also has a more detailed environment

I left my feedback on the game in the description of the video, just a few things that got on my nerves but overall I like it.

Thanks for the video and thanks for playing! Yeah, its a bit rough right now as an alpha but all the basic mechanics are there. As far as the enemies - 3 axe swings to kill usually. The axe range needs to be a bit farther for sure though. Just tested the blocking mechanic - apparently it is broken:( will fix!

On the power puzzle - I think i need a better message than "press h - j - k keys to connect the wires." All you have to do is press they keys in order, i.e.: press k, press j, press j, press h, press h, press j. (Not actual order) You dont have to look at the connectors or click on anything. You dont have to hold j and press k or anything like that.

Will probably change the handbook to say "Connect wires in proper sequence." Not sure yet, currently working on level two, an abandoned subway. Thanks again and of course, liked and subscribed :)

Hey man thanks so much for playing! Dont forget you can save your game by opening the menu with escape. Secondly, you've got to move backwards and strike the enemies, you must hack at them between their strikes :)

I haven't been able to beat the game yet because I can't access the inventory and look at the book or whatever I picked up, but even so I'm pretty impressed with this, given it's an alpha. I have yet to experience a bug that someone else hasn't pointed out. My only real issues are that the attack range is hard to figure out, some enemies attack too fast to block, and I still can't figure out where the inventory button is. I feel like there should at least be on of those "this button does this" screens at the beginning of the game. With some refinement, the combat could be pretty great. As any survival horror veteran will tell you, combat should be a bit janky so that you dread fighting enemies, but the combat here is just slightly over the line and becomes frustrating at times. I'll update this little semi-review once I figure out how to get the end of the demo. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for playing! I've been working on fixes and features and just released version V00.3 - it's loads better! Including an all new Maniac Mode :) I recommend deleting the one you have and installing the new one for a much, much better experience.

Great nightmare fuel, this game managed to make me jump multiple times! Despite being super dark in places and at times hard to understand where to go next, the character animations and shader made the gameplay very enjoyable! I wasn't able to get past the final zombie as I didn't have enough weapon ammo but it was still a cool and unique concept on the zombie genre!

Played this for a 3 free indie horrors and didn't particularly enjoy every aspect of it. The game just doesn't feel entirely balanced and with the constant crashing every death, i lost interest rather quickly. The sprinting was really bad, not only did it really not offer much faster movement but after you run out, you're an autistic snail until is recharges. The wind up on the axe is a little "Eh..." The forced "Weapon or flashlight" mechanic was annoying and the boss at the end i got stuck on because i ran out of ammo. You can't kill him without bullets, he hits you from too far away to get close enough to hurt him, and i don't even think the full clip would had finished him, Now all of this isn't meant to say there's nothing right about the game. i like the pixelated style, while most areas were ridiculously pitch black, it still looked nice and the atmosphere was pretty good. Not crazy about the sound design but it also wasn't bad. You can find a Full and in-depth review and feedback in my video below 

Hey thanks for playing! Your feedback is definitely valuable, quite a few changes are being implemented in V00.3 which will be the final alpha version. Definitely agree the sprint could use a little work, barely ship-able at the moment. 

The boss is already being reworked, there are some scaling issues as well as you probably noticed. It takes roughly 20 shots to kill him but yes, it is possible :) Will watch your video soon when I get home to wifi, but did you find the safe in the second room? Inside resides two clips of ammo and a health pack, which are necessary to defeat the boss.

Also, saving often is recommended. Of course, crashing definitely discourages one to keep playing either way! The issue with crashes on reload I'm still trying to sort, its hard to diagnose because it varies from person to person. On some machines, it rarely crashes - if at all. On others, it seems to crash every time the game is reloaded. I don't expect you to play more, but running in compatibility mode for windows 7 seems to help. 

And yes, definitely too dark. Not for long tho :)

Yeah, it's no problem. I do these types of video not just to show the game for a playthrough, but the end segments are for the developers mainly, where i give my honest opinions and reviews and try to help you guys improve wherever i can, because (Contrary to popular belief) i ONLY want to see you and all other devs thrive, and that can only be achieved through honest criticism and feedback (Sorry if i come across as harsh in  my review, you gotta understand, I play A LOT of indie horrors). No, i didn't get the safe open, i actually forgot about the safe entirely after my first death. The biggest concerns i have are the Movement, sprint and lighting, everything else wasn't particularly bad for an FPS creator game. I did manage to break your pixelation overlay when i loaded my save that final time, and i think the dog on the stairs AI is broken. I'd definitely give it another play once you update the game though.

No worries, honest feedback is the most valuable feedback! Certainly is more rough edge than game at this point but this kind of feedback is exactly why I made it available now, before I made a bunch of design decisions lol. 


I do like enter as the action button bevause it discourages fighting and using objects (pickups, doors, etc) at the same time. Still though, I may default it to F key as it seems many people do not like the enter button for interaction. Personal keybinding (and mouse inversion) will also be available in the finished product, though unfortunately not in this alpha version.

It's awesome, the one thing that does it for me is the soundtrack, it's very eerie and sounds alot like NIN's The Downward Spiral. It should loop and or the tracks should merge together, cause when it obviously cuts off and changes into another song it gets distracting. Also when your character jumps he sounds like he's barfing lol. I know that the whole game has a pixel art filter, but the axe looks like a sprite and some the enemies look like they were textured in pixel art, is that what it is?

Actually all the models and enemies are fully textured and rendered 3d models of varying quality, due to a current bug simply save the game then exit to main menu, then load your save. You will see the game without the retro screen effect :)

Sweet, do you have a twitter or instagram where I could see the model in higher detail? It's pretty hard to take a good look at it when running away and screaming. I'm making a game in that artstyle and some inspiration would be great!

Hi, sorry I had some issues with the game crashing, please see my video. It 'could' be from my end as I'm only on a laptop with the recording done on a tablet using OBS and Droid Cam. You can also see some lag issues with my recording although this has happened with some other games so I don't think that's to do with this game.

My other issue was completely stumped, I felt a bit lost as to where to go or what to do. I finally found and picked up a weapon but didn't know how to use it so basic instructions would have helped. I searched for the other keys for ages (cut scenes) and felt quite trapped.

Otherwise this was a good game, I definately got a taste of the horror and would be interested in replaying once I can sort out these issues.

Thanks for playing! Im sorry you had trouble with ut crashing, it might be your machine or it might not. Running it in Windows 7 compatability mode might solve that issue. What are your system specs? I know OBS can be quite demanding :s


As far as being stumped - I definitely need to put some more direction and instructions in! You can switch weapons with the scroll wheel. This is just an early alpha release but your feedback is super valuable so thank you :) Liked and subscribed👍

Intel Core  7,  8550 cpu @180ghz, 16gb ram, windows 10

Graphics Nvidia Geforce MX150

I did try the mouse scroll to change weapons because that's how it worked in Filthbreed but it didn't work, that might have been me though, I will keep an eye for an update as I'd like to complete the game :)

Okay Sarahja, I've done some digging and I believe the crashing issue unfortunately has to do with windows 10 for some reason. Try running in compatibility mode for either Windows 7 or Windows XP, though unfortunately that may not help. It seems to be inconsistent in the frequency it happens on different machines, I plan to have some sort fix in the official release. 


I'll let you know when I update to v00.3 (probably tomorrow) as it will be a much more stable, polished, and bug free version :)

This game was very good! The monsters reminded me about the monster in Outlast and Amnesia. I definitely felt as scared when playing the older Resident Evil games. With a computer like mine, I am very glad to see my computer run this game without any issues (My computer is trash ;~;)! I wish there was so much more that was in the game! So I can't wait to see how this game turns out! Thanks so much! Keep up the good work!

How do I open the door in the starting room? I've found the key. Tried to walk up to the door, presses ENTER. Nothing happens.

Thats not good :/ Try watching this video: 

Perhaps you are going to the wrong door? The correct door may be hidden in the darkness on your monitor, try upping the brightness. The key for the locked door is further ahead in the level. 

Let me know if that was your issue! If that doesnt help, try recording a short video for me (using a free software such as OBS is painless) showing exactly your problem and I will try to diagnose it :)

"Hey I played the demo, and must say it's looking good so far  Nice atmosphere & good layout.
I really like your scripts for the player wobble and such. Nice touch/effect. While I do like the Retro shaders Uzi
just made, it didn't go so well with my machine. I had to turn it off to be able to play the demo  ( everything was way to dark on my end)
After that all went well. I still have to finish the "whole" game, I'll let you know how it goes  

Now my gripes & complaints. Yes, change the hud for the "loading" screen. Kinda ruins the whole setup that follows.
Had a really hard time finding keys & things, still not sure if I found everything I was suppose to  ( maybe the "Item Flasher" shader would help? )
Boss way too big, you know that already. Player dies too easily ( at least I did..lol)
Make a custom menu ! Lol

Thanks so much for playing our game! You gave it a really good effort, and I know some more direction is needed. I plan to change the flashlight to "Found Keychain Light" or similar.

I also need a pop up message about the power cables - you have to find the Power Instructions before you can connect them! Sorry that was not very clear.

Also, save often! You can save by pressing ESC then clicking Save Game.

"Congrats on the good review. It's obvious you've put some work into the game so far. 


Some things I liked were...
- use of the shader, it worked well with the simple environment.
- the level of darkness was good as was the light placement.
- the wiring puzzle.
- using doors in different states, some broken, some left open, etc.
- music and sound was great

Some things that need work...
- key placement/use of keys. Think of more inventive ways to provide access besides doors and keys.
- the BOSS is just too big, walking and reaching through ceilings and walls. He would work well in a much more open environment.
- menus of course. I know that's something normally done last but since you're presenting this, you may want to consider it now.

I think three levels is a good idea and limit for this engine, and if they're good levels then you've got a win. The only other thing I can add is keep polishing."

Thank you. Do you have direct x 9 installed? I am working on bundling the game with the DX9 installer. Hopefully that is the issue for you. If that doesn't fix it, let me know so I can figure out the problem

Really cool game but Bro how i can kill Invisible zombies in the dark place :/ You can't use light and weapon at same time.

The Video is Finished after Outro Dont watch after that.

Wow really good try dude! The enemies are definitely not supposed to be invisible - that is a confirmed bug and a clear shader issue. Also, you are not supposed to be able to break that door with the axe, the key is hidden elsewhere. However I like your thinking and will probably let that be as is. 

What version of windows are you running and what are your system specs? May help me diagnose. Needs a new installer because it requires direct x 9 as well - if that isnt installed that may what's causing the issue.

As far as the power puzzle, the wires are connected by pressing keyboard keys in order(you may have the manuel equipped while doing this). Like so: a -> b, b -> c, c -> a would be entered like this: a,b,b,c,c,a if that makes sense. You dont need to be looking at them or click them, punching keys is sufficient my friend.

Dont forget there is a save function that will be improved later, but saving often will make beating the game a lot easier :)

Hey man was wondering if you could do some super quick testing for me tonight or tomorrow? Youre the only person with the confirmed invisible enemies bug and though Ive patched it, the solution isnt optimal.

Could you maybe test a couple builds for me later just to see if the enemies are invisible? Would mean alot to me!
